I'm Getting There

Invincible

After the recent conditions at Stevens, I was anxious to make it up to the mountain to ride. It’s been shit weather with no snow. The last couple of days have finally been dumping powder (creating perfect avalanche conditions), and I was planning on going up today.

There’s a level of invincibility you seem to have when you’re riding lines that nobody has really touched before. You don’t really think about the risks you’re taking because it inhibits your ability to react. You prepare for the worst beforehand, but you don’t think about it in the moment.

It’s surreal to think that I should’ve been up there today. I was supposed to be hitting the same lines that they were. I was supposed to be there. I could’ve seen my end today. I didn’t though, and some friends of friends did.

I don’t really know how to react, except to be thankful for the life that I have. I remember to be thankful for the safety I have. My condolences go out for their families and friends. Here’s to those who we’ve lost doing what they love. Cheers to you, and may you rest in peace.
